The Course of Events Whereby I Became Really, Really Excited
Published on July 28, 2004 By Casus Belli In History
Well, here I begin. The week is half over and I've simply nothing to write at the moment. Therefore, I felt I would include the case of events where I have become the most excited person in the world! I am currently slated to leave for Germany on my R&R Leave! The chain of events leading up to this auspicious occassion started in November when the Department of Defense announced it would be allowing soldiers to take two weeks of leave within certain months during their tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. I was elated to hear the news! At the time, I was in an Arabic language course in Florida getting ready to deploy to Iraq. The excitement and exhiliration I felt was too much! I knew I would be going to Iraq soon. Germany and Europe would be open at my feet!
I ended my language course and found I was dropped from the activation rolls of my unit. Two weeks of nothing ensued. I was finally accepted into an Artillery Battalion deploying to Iraq. I commenced training stateside at Fort Drum, New York. Early in 2004, we finally left for Kuwait and beyond. When events beyond our control took over, we responded and minimized the threat. During this time, our allotments for leave were reduced to a dribble from the faucet. Not until June did they return to full flow.
Having applied for leave in July, in order to attend my cousin's wedding, I found myself seperated from the nerve center of my unit. Decisions were made which nullified the former application. Undaunted, I pursued other avenues in order to secure a position for August. After much hassle, I was finally able to be slated to leave on August 1st. Not a moment too soon!
I've built it up in my mind! Europe in the summer - a summer which includes the Olympic Games in Athens, Blenheim Palace's 300th Anniversary of the Battle of Blenheim (Birthplace of Winston Churchill), and the vast, beautiful beaches. Pretty girls wearing next to nothing has not been forgotten! The excitement, therefore, has built to a crescendo a mere three days out. I cannot wait! A full account, will, of course, be included herein!
